William “Bill” D. McCarty

Chris GibsonWilliam “Bill” D. McCarty joined The Corydon Group, LLC in October of 2006 as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining The Corydon Group, Bill served as Chairman of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. He was first appointed chairman in June of 1997 by Governor Frank O’Bannon and was reappointed in March of 2001 to a second four-year term. He chaired a five-member commission that administered the laws regulating utilities that provide electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, or private sewer services. Having participated as a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners for eight years, McCarty served as Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of NARUC, Vice Chair of the NARUC Committee on Water and as a member of the Board of Directors. An attorney, Bill served for 15 years as a state senator prior to joining the IURC. He served as a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and the IURC Committee on Practice and Procedure. He held the position of assistant to the vice president for business affairs at Ball State University prior to his appointment to the commission and maintained a private law practice for 18 years. Bill graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wabash College; he earned a master’s degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University and a Law Degree from the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis. McCarty has served as an instructor of History, Political Science and Economics at Anderson University.
