John Cochran is The Corydon Group’s senior advisor for governmental affairs and procurement.
John well understands the nuance and processes of Indiana government. An attorney with over two decades experience in public affairs, he has worked in multiple state executive agencies, the Indiana General Assembly, and the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office. He most recently served as vice president of public affairs for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). In that role, he served as liaison between IEDC and state and local government.
John served as parliamentarian for the Indiana House of Representatives for the 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023 legislative sessions where he advised the Speaker of the House on procedural and legislative strategy and House members on rules and legislative procedure. He understands the inner workings of the state legislature and enjoys good relationships with lawmakers.
In 2021, John left the House to serve as both Indiana securities commissioner and legislative director for the Indiana Secretary of State. As securities commissioner, he oversaw state regulation of the securities, loan broker, and investment advisor industries, supervising all criminal investigations and civil actions. He also guided the office’s legislative initiatives regarding elections, securities regulation, and auto dealerships through the General Assembly.
Preceding these roles, John was a lobbyist for a large Indianapolis public affairs firm, where his client roster included Indiana municipalities, technology companies, chemical manufacturers, associations, and engineering consultants. Prior to lobbying, John served as special counsel to former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, having managed his breakthrough 2007 campaign.
A graduate of George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, John earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. John lives in Brownsburg, Indiana, with his wife and son.
